I provide personalized garden coaching and consultations for homeowners throughout South Central Pennsylvania. Whether you’re just getting started, struggling with a problem area, or looking for help choosing the right plants, I’ll help you make informed decisions with confidence. As a garden coach, my focus is education and guidance, not landscaping or installation. My goal is to help you better understand your garden so you can create and maintain a space you love.
Pricing: Garden coaching sessions are $50 per hour and are tailored to your specific garden, goals, and questions.
Not sure where to start? I’ll walk through your property with you, discuss your goals, and help you understand your garden’s unique opportunities and challenges.
During our consultation, I can help you:
A typical garden consultation usually takes about 60 to 90 minutes. This gives us enough time to walk through your garden together, talk about your goals, and answer your questions. If your space is larger or you have lots of questions, it might take a little longer.
Before a garden coaching visit, please complete a sunlight check for any specific garden areas you’d like help with. Choose a day when you can check the area approximately every two hours and note when direct sunlight begins and ends in that particular spot. Please be as precise as possible rather than estimating based on how sunny the overall yard appears.
Sun exposure can vary significantly from one area of a garden to another, and the amount of sunlight a location receives changes throughout the year. The time of year when you complete your observations is important, so be sure to note the date along with your sunlight observations.
You don’t need to clean up or otherwise prepare your garden ahead of time. Seeing your garden as it naturally is helps provide the most useful information during your coaching visit.
You don’t need any gardening experience at all. Whether you’re a total beginner or you’ve been gardening for years, you’ll get advice that fits your skill level and goals. The guidance is always tailored to where you’re starting from.
I am primarily an ornamental gardener, but I’m happy to help with vegetable-growing questions to the best of my ability. Since vegetables are plants, my knowledge of plant care, growing conditions, sunlight, soil, and general plant health can be helpful when working with vegetable gardens as well.
Whether you want colorful blooms, fresh vegetables, or a mix of both, your garden goals will be the focus.
The cost for a garden coaching session usually depends on the length of the visit and your specific needs. Most sessions have an hourly rate of $50 an hour, and I’ll share the price up front, so you know what to expect before we get started.
If something isn’t thriving, I’ll help you figure out why.
Whether you’re dealing with plants that won’t bloom, shrubs that struggle year after year, or areas where nothing seems to grow well, I’ll assess the conditions and offer practical recommendations.
I can help with:
I include free soil testing as part of every garden coaching service. Testing the soil helps me better understand the conditions in your garden so I can make more informed recommendations.
I’ll visit your garden, look closely at your plants, take a soil test, and figure out what’s causing the problem. I’ll explain what’s going on in easy-to-understand terms and show you what steps to take so your plants can start looking healthy and strong again.
Yes, that’s the whole idea! I’ll walk you through each step and show you how to care for your plants in a way that’s easy to understand. You will become an expert manager of your yard.
Most of the time, I can figure out what’s wrong with your plants during my first visit. If something needs more investigation or testing, I’ll let you know and keep you updated. My goal is to give you answers and solutions as quickly as possible. Test results are usually back in a week or less.
My specific area of expertise is annuals and perennials, but I have a good woody-plant knowledge base. If you have something unique, I’ll do my best to help.
Choosing the right plants can feel overwhelming. I’ll help you select plants that fit your garden conditions, maintenance preferences, and personal style.
Together, we’ll explore:
I visit your garden, look at your space, and talk with you about what you like. Then, I suggest plants that will fit your yard, match your style, and grow well in your area. You’ll get clear recommendations made just for you.
Certainly! Please keep in mind that there are almost no “maintenance-free” plants.
Yes, I help you decide the best spot for each plant in your garden. I look at things like sunlight, space, and how your yard looks, so every plant gets a good home, and your garden feels just right for you.
Absolutely. I help you choose a mix of plants so something is always blooming in your garden, from spring through fall. This way, you can enjoy color and interest in your yard for as much of the year as possible. I have a special place in my heart for late-blooming perennials.
Yes, I help you choose plants that are safe for pets and kids. I’ll make sure to recommend options that won’t cause any harm if they’re touched or accidentally eaten, so you can feel comfortable letting everyone enjoy the garden.
While most of my work focuses on consultation and guidance, I also offer hands-on support by the hour for gardeners who would like extra help putting recommendations into practice.
Whether you’d like me to work alongside you in your garden or accompany you to a local nursery or garden center, I can provide personalized guidance as you learn and make decisions.
